No losses are easy to swallow but certainly the ninth inning blown-save loss is usually the toughest.The Washington Nationals gave away a win last night, and they know it.They were facing a Marlins team decimated by injuries, and yet the Nats could not take advantage.Tonight, MacKenzie Gore takes the mound for the Nats.

The Washington Nationals took care of business yesterday for a happy flight to Miami last night.It was a themed trip in Miami whites, and several of the players did not have to buy clothes as they just pulled clothes right out of their closet.The players looked great, and Stone Garrett and Cole Irvin pulled off Crockett and Tubbs well in a Miami Vice sort of way.

Two games, two solid performances, but two wildly different circumstances.Jake Irvin, a guy who you weren't even sure would see the majors in 2023 shut down the Giants over 6+ in his second start ever while Patrick Corbin, a guy you have been kind of forced to see over the past few years because of a giant contract, kept the Nats in the game despite some untimely errors.

There is something about that No. 19 in Washington Nationals' lore.Something seemed to change with this team after their April 19 game.They went to the freezing temperatures of Minnesota, and did the opposite - and heated up.The team is 10-7 since then, and if you remove that 16-1 blowout game, the other six losses were by an average of exactly 2-runs per game.

The Washington Nationals are now 20 percent through their 2023 schedule, and you usually know the team you have at game 45.The Nats are a surprisingly good 8-6 in their past two weeks in their schedule.The Nats will have a battle of the lefties with MacKenzie Gore on the mound for the D.C. team and Tommy Henry for the home team.

Trevor Williams hurled a substantial 5 1/3 innings Thursday while CJ Abrams was 3-for-3 on the day as the Nationals cruised to a 4-1 win over the Cubs, their 11th win on the young season.Williams lasted 5 1/3 innings, getting relieved for Carl Edwards Jr. with a runner on, only for Edwards to later load the bases - though he managed to get out of it and keep Williams' pretty goose egg in his line: he allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out four in his no-run outing.

In a very bland loss to the Cubs Monday night, the Nationals drop to 10-18 on the season and MacKenzie Gore takes the loss in a sleepy night for Washington's offense.Gore went 4+ innings, as the Cubs strung together three straight hits in the first inning to give them an early 2-0 lead.Thomas walloped a 424-foot solo homer for his first of the season in the second inning, and it was a one-run game for the next two innings before Gore ran into some more trouble in the fifth.

The Washington Nationals begin a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.The team from Wrigley brings a lot new faces to the team, and the Nats are familiar with them all.Cody Bellinger from the Dodgers and some classic postseason matchups, Dansby Swanson from years with the Braves, and Trey Mancini who was a fixture in some many Battle of the Beltways games.

The Washington Nationals experienced some highs in their season just from the past week, and now this weekend the team has been humbled by the hot Pittsburgh Pirates, a team in first place in the NL Central.Today's game is officially in a weather delay.Will it be played?The Nats had won two series in a row coming into this weekend's slate, and the Pirates already won this series with the Nats just looking for a salvage win.

22-year-old CJ Abrams hasn't had the most powerful bat this season - and neither have the Nationals as a whole.Abrams went into Thursday night with just one homer on the night while Washington had 12 homers all season.But, the Nats homered twice Thursday night, with Alex Call socking a solo homer in the third inning to put Washington on the board.
