the company removed dozens of videos featuring Deadpool, Moana, Mickey Mouse, Star Wars characters and other Disney IP as of Friday, just days after Disney accused it of "infringing Disney's copyrights on a massive scale." The letter, seen by both publications earlier this week, called out Google not just for hosting these videos on YouTube, but also for using copyrighted works to train models including Veo and Nano Banana.
Disney's billion-dollar OpenAI deal isn't the only way the company is embracing AI. In recent months, the Mouse House has been quietly adding new AI tools to its arsenal and encouraging staff to use them. "They clearly see where things are headed," a longtime software engineer at Disney said. This marked a shift from this summer, when Disney had seemed "hesitant to rely on AI tools," they said.
Beginning with a beta launch next week, customers will be able to tag Target in ChatGPT and describe what they need. For instance, a request like "Help me plan a holiday movie night" will prompt ChatGPT to build a shopping cart with products from Target, such as snacks and blankets. Once the cart is ready, shoppers will be directed to the Target app to complete their purchase.
Intuit said its tools, such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks and Mailchimp, will be accessible through ChatGPT, allowing users to ask questions and complete tasks such as estimating tax refunds, reviewing credit options, or managing business finances. With users' permission, Intuit's apps will be able to access their financial data to generate responses and complete tasks, like sending marketing messages or issuing invoice reminders.
ChatGPT now drives roughly 20% of Walmart's referral traffic, Modern Retail previously reported. It's worth noting, however, that referral clicks account for less than 5% of total site visits. A working paper authored by OpenAI's Economic Research team found that around 2% of all ChatGPT queries involve shopping, or about 50 million queries per day. Selling its wares within ChatGPT positions Walmart to capture sales if AI-powered shopping takes off.
The $1.65 trillion chip giant Broadcom cut staff earlier this week. The cuts on Thursday affected staff largely in sales, as well as customer success, account management, and solutions, according to LinkedIn posts and a person familiar with the matter. It's unclear how many roles were affected. Broadcom has been making rolling cuts at the company, including at software firm VMware, which it acquired in late 2023. VMware's workforce has been slashed by roughly in half, Business Insider reported earlier this year.
Just this morning, analysts at Mizuho reiterated an outperform rating on Advanced Micro Devices ( NASDAQ: AMD) with a price target of $275 from $205. All after AMD announced a long-term deal to become a key supplier to OpenAI's AI infrastructure program. AMD added that the new partnership will allow it to generate billions of dollars in annual revenue. It will also allow it to generate over $100 billion in total revenue from chips over the next few years.
