Robbie Cannon was in a fourball with Shane Lowry at The Grove XXIII, a small corner of paradise tucked away on the outskirts of Hobe Sound in Florida.
After a tough workout, your body enters a state of stress: muscle fibers are damaged, energy stores are depleted, and hydration levels drop. This is a critical moment. If your body gets the right nutrients, it starts rebuilding immediately. If not, recovery slows down, and so does progress.
Troy Parrott's actions on the pitch included scoring Ireland's opener and successfully converting a penalty in the shoot-out, demonstrating his skill and composure under pressure.
Obviously, the game wasn't the result that we wanted, but playing in that game was so much fun and I think that's what I feel coming out of that game. That was the most fun I've had in a hockey game in a very long time. Coming back, there wasn't a lot of downtime. We've gotten right back into our season, and so we've played a couple games.
Derval O'Rourke recently saw the trailer for the new Rory McIlroy documentary about his Masters victory and there's a line in it about last year being his 17th attempt to win the green jacket.
Most Olympians and athletic champions retire from their sport by their mid-30s, searching for passion in a different line of work. Fortunately for elite athletes on the job hunt, the famously selective bank is looking to tap into the same talent that rowing stars, competitive swimmers, and Super Bowl champions bring to the table. And apparently, there's much more in common between athletics and banking than what meets the eye.
"We have a golden retriever, and so I walk her three or four miles a day, and I do a weight training class twice a week," says Brown, 62, of Arlington, Va. She knows muscle mass will decline without regular strength training. "We have a fun group with a personal trainer and we call ourselves the Beastie Girls," she says, describing how her group helps her stick with it. She also plays tennis and golf.
If you're watching the Olympics this year, or have watched in the past, you've probably wondered how the top athletes in the world bolster themselves emotionally for high- stress situations, being exposed and visible to millions of viewers in difficult moments, and how they deal with failure and defeat and become resilient. Dr. Cindra Kamphoff, whose MD-level background in sports psychology, two decades of work with professional and Olympic athletics, and The High Performance Mindset podcast, has developed techniques that are helpful to people inside or outside of the sports arena.
Team USA men's hockey easily handled Latvia in their opening game of the 2026 Winter Olympics, securing a 5-1 victory. The focus now turns to their second round-robin game against Denmark on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. ET. Denmark lost their opener 3-1 to Germany but played better than the scoreline suggests. They outshot the Germans 38-25 but struggled to contain the star power of Leon Draisaitl and Tim Stutzle.
Over the course of the twelve-year gap between Olympic appearances, the NHL has drastically evolved. Most of the legendary trios of the 2010's, namely Drew Doughty-Dustin Brown-Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings and Duncan Keith-Patrick Kane-Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks, have drifted apart in some form. Superstars Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews, in addition to future stars Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard, got drafted into the league.
Dual moguls is new to the Olympics this year. It's head-to-head heats, with skiers facing moguls, gates, and jumps-and being judged, head-to-head, on each element for a combined score. In the men's medal rounds today, Japan's Ikuma Horishima (pictured above, sort of) had a disastrous run in his round-of-16 showdown, and somehow ended up facing the wrong way. That's an odd and very specific sort of adversity to overcome, but he did it.
The most humbling thing is being at the top of the run with the Paralympic team, who are mostly visually impaired, and they just disappear into the distance while I'm still putting my boots on. As performance director of GB Snowsport, nevertheless, Myall's job is to give the nation's talented crop of snowboarders, freestyle, alpine and mogul skiers a decisive edge when the Games commence in Milan next week.
