Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg has been slowed by an oblique injury in camp and was already expected to miss the first few games of exhibition play as a result. However, it appears there's greater concern than just a mild oblique strain. Andy Kostka of the Baltimore Banner reports that Westburg was sent for imaging on his elbow. The results have not yet been disclosed.
The Boston Red Sox put rookie sensation Roman Anthony on the injured list Wednesday after the outfielder experienced left oblique tightness in Tuesday's 11-7 win over the Cleveland Guardians. While not giving a specific timetable, Red Sox manager Alex Cora acknowledged that oblique strains typically require four to six weeks of recovery time. "He's one of our best offensive players, but it's not hard," Cora said Wednesday. "We have to move on. We've been through this before."
The Angels announced this afternoon that they've signed right-hander to a major league contract. He'll take the active roster spot of left-hander Tyler Anderson, who is headed to the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain. A timeline for Anderson's return to action is not yet available, but Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register suggests that the injury is "likely" to end Anderson's 2025 season. More to come.
Vesia was one of the few Dodgers pitchers who had avoided the injured list until now. Only Anthony Banda has made more appearances than Vesia, who has gotten into 59 contests. He owns a 2.75 earned run average while striking out 33% of opponents across 52 1/3 frames. Vesia has collected four saves and recorded a career-best 21 holds. It's his second straight excellent season.
