Who the fuck is Madeline? Her name is star Natalie Tippett, and she has some thoughts about the "false narrative" presented in Lily Allen's new album, West End Girl, which dropped in October. The identity of the alleged mistress at the center of Allen's fifth studio album, which details the dissolution of her marriage to Stranger Things David Harbour, has been the source of much fascination for weeks now.

And throughout the song, the titular Madeline kicked up her legs and seems blithely unaware of the havoc she's causing Allen. The song is about the relationship Allen feels has been forced open, and the ways her boundaries continue to be crossed, a.k.a. her ex is sleeping with oomfs: "We had an arrangement / "Be discreet and don't be blatant / There had to be payment / It had to be with strangers / But you're not a stranger, Madeline."

Lily Allen's first album in seven years "fuses fact and fiction" as it traces the breakdown of an open marriage. Recorded over ten days following her 2024 breakup from Stranger Things actor David Harbour, whom she married in 2020, it's hard not to picture him as the subject of the lyrical cheating allegations. "I made this record in December 2024 and it was a way for me to process what was happening in my life," Allen told British Vogue in an October 17 profile.
