Mookie Betts expresses optimism about his recovery from a right oblique strain, feeling better than initially expected.
"What a good day, and what a stupid accident...again. Five years after [my previous nose break], my nose is f---ed up even worse [laughs]. As you see, it's even more cracked the same direction, and when I touch [my nose], my bones are broken inside."
He'll be fine, it's more precaution sitting him out," head coach Derek King told Hershey's Zack Fisch. Protas suffered a lower-body injury against the Senators in Saturday's 6-3 defeat. He was one of seven Bears players listed on the team's injury report before Sunday's puck drop.
The JT Miller injury is annoying because of everything else that happened this season. We watched the "captain" toil around and barely care, giving the worst postgame quotes and coming dangerously close to blaming fans for booing the Rangers during the Columbus game. To be fair, I don't think he actually blamed fans, but it came off that way and-when coupled with everything else he's done this season-it's hard to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Bedard has been cleared to play on Friday night against Washington. The 20-year-old center participated in the team's morning skate ahead of the matchup with the Capitals. "It's obviously a huge boost," assistant coach Mike Vellucci said. "He's a big part of our team and he was playing really well before he got injured. We're excited to have him back."
William Nylander was injured leading up to the Olympic Games, but returned for the Maple Leafs final three games before travelling to Milan. Head Coach Sam Hallam spoke about Nylander's absence, mentioning, "It's a maintenance thing." "He's done two full ice practices with us and felt after yesterday a bit sore after yesterday, so just give him an extra day. And then we'll see for tomorrow if he's ready to go. It's going to be a pretty late decision."
Sandin was hurt with just 19 seconds remaining in the first frame, absorbing a hit from Oilers forward Curtis Lazar against the boards. After getting up slowly, Sandin got back into position and made a big shot block on defender Ty Emberson with the inside of his leg. The 25-year-old Swede needed assistance to get back to the team's bench once the horn sounded to end the period.
What drove the decision to go back to Joseph Woll for tonight's start in goal? Berube: I get that last game was a tough game. With the travel and everything, our team wasn't at our best. I don't think we gave him the opportunity to be successful in that game. He has been our guy. That is why I am going with him. Would you go back to him on Friday, or are you worried about his workload? Berube: I am not overly worried right now. I think he is in a good place.
Berube: We wanted to just get moving again, with a lot of puck touches and skating up and down the ice. That is basically what practice was. The guys worked hard, and I thought they looked pretty good, given the amount of time they had off. Berube: It is great having him back out there. We'll see where he gets to. He is feeling good and ready to go. We'll see how it goes this week.
Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced on Tuesday that goaltender Thatcher Demko will undergo hip surgery and be out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. Demko last played on January 10 and is expected to be ready for training camp. Demko is done for the season Demko's last action was in a 5-0 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 10, allowing three goals on six shots.
A goaltender with tremendous size, Tolopilo made his NHL debut on April 14, 2025 against the San Jose Sharks. He was called up to the show only days earlier on an emergency basis. He played well and made 15 saves to secure his first NHL win in a 2-1 victory. He has spent most of his pro career with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League, affilaite of Vancouver.
With 6:14 remaining in the second period, Protas collected a loose puck in neutral and dumped it into the offensive zone. As he did, Rocket forward Tyler Thorpe approached from Ilya's blind side, attempting to send Protas hard into the boards. Little Pro managed to sidestep most of the impact, but Thorpe connected hard with his left leg, sending him tumbling to the ice.
