If you're reading this, you probably know the value of the Mercury 's news reporting, arts and culture coverage, event calendar, and the bevy of events we host throughout the year. The work we do helps our city shine, but we can't do it without your support. If you believe Portland benefits from smart, local journalism and arts coverage, please consider making a small monthly contribution, because without you, there is no us. Thanks for your support!
Yeah, it's really intense here. And, Erin, I just we just all got pepper sprayed. And so I'm just still recovering from that. There's so much of the pepper spray still in the air and so, so many people around us coughing and gagging, including us. So, it's been a really interesting scene here. I've never seen this before in all of my years covering protests here in this area, here in downtown L.A.
Despite a day of near-constant rain, organizers of Portland's Emergency World Naked Bike Ride went ahead with their plans to protest on Sunday-the clouds miraculously parting just before the meetup time of 2:30 pm. Hundreds showed and rode in the buff or in solidarity with the buff. The ride's summer version is a protest against dependence on oil that celebrates body positivity and alternatives to car transport.
We just want to go in and look at the facility and see what the conditions are and they would not let us in. It is shameful. They've refused to tell us this information. I've done this job for a few years now, I've never had this stonewalling by any presidential administration. What are you afraid of? You don't hide, you don't run away when you're proud of what you're doing.
