Gleyber Torres lined the first pitch of the game into left-center for a single, and that was the closest thing the Yankees had to momentum all night.Luis Severino was dreadful in his third start of the season, and the only New York hitters to make an impact were Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton, fresh off the IL.

It might only be June 12th, but the 93rd edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game is less than a month away.MLB is currently in the voting stage of determining starters, and Phase 1 began at the end of May.Now with close to two weeks of votes in, the league has released its first update on the leaders at each position.

NEW YORK (AP) Aaron Judge hit a pair of two-run homers, Anthony Volpe sparked the Yankees by breaking Joe DiMaggio's team record for consecutive stolen bases at the start of a career and New York overcame a six-run deficit for a 9-8 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.Rays ace Shane McClanahan failed to hold a 6-0, fifth-inning lead, six days after Yankees ace Gerrit Cole squandered a 6-0, fifth-inning advantage in an 8-7, 10-inning loss at Tampa Bay.

No good deed goes unpunished.Seriously.Aaron Judge's spectacular catch in Los Angeles on Saturday has ultimately resulted in the superstar heading back to the injured list, as Josh reported Tuesday night.On Wednesday afternoon, the Yankees officially placed Judge on the 10-day IL, retroactive to June 4th.

Stolen bases are up across the league, as we all knew they'd be with the new base sizes and pitcher disengagement rules implemented this season.The Yankees aren't taking too much advantage of it - they rank near league average in stolen bases (42) but are almost dead last in the league with a 74 percent success rate - but nonetheless, they're fitting in with the trend.

Even without Anthony Rizzo and Harrison Bader, the Yankees' offense continues to click.They've now scored 30 runs across the last three games, with Anthony Volpe, Aaron Judge, and Greg Allen leaving the yard on this particular night and Isiah Kiner-Falefa staying locked-in with four hits and four RBI.

A lot can change across a four-year period in Major League Baseball.Contending rosters can quickly spiral and crumble, while rebuilding teams find their next wave of talent.Windows open and close, and dynasties rise and fall.With the San Diego Padres in town for a three-game set, we have a tangible example with a comparison right there to be made, as exactly four years ago, the Yankees and Padres also met for a three-game series at Yankee Stadium.

Well, that was no fun.In a game that many would have pegged as most likely to be a shootout, a pitchers' duel erupted.Kyle Gibson and Clarke Schmidt both spun impressive outings, but it was Gibson who came out with seven scoreless inning and the win, as the Baltimore Orioles took the away series from the New York Yankees with a decisive 3-1 victory in the Bronx.

For eight total innings yesterday, things were good for the Bronx Bombers: Nestor Cortes was dealing, Gleyber Torres and Isiah Kiner-Falefa lit up Baltimore pitching, and across those frames, they may have come away with a dominant 5-1 victory that set them up for the sweep.Unfortunately, Major League Baseball rules do not allow us to ignore the seventh inning, and because of this, the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles will instead face off in the rubber match between two of the American League's top four teams.

After a thrilling win in extras last night, their second such victory in three games, the Yankees will try to extend their season-high five-game win streak in another Bronx bout with Baltimore.The game was perhaps closer than it had to be, given the Yankees' failure to wave Gleyber Torres home in the seventh on an Anthony Rizzo single and then a subsequent confounding DJ LeMahieu bunt attempt, but a win's a win.

The lineups have been released and we are less than an hour away from Clarke Schmidt searching for a Mother's Day win - and his second of the season - against Zach Eflin and the Tampa Bay Rays in the rubber match of this intradivision rivalry.Schmidt has allowed at least two runs in each of his starts this year, with Tuesday's outing in Oakland marking his first win of the season and his first time successfully completing six innings in seven attempts.

Looking back, the 2022 Yankees were a team that, despite its high-performing starting rotation and powerful (albeit inconsistent) lineup, ought to be known primarily for its defensive prowess.No matter how you look at it, their defense was elite: their 129 Defensive Runs Saved led the league by more than 50 runs (the Dodgers came in second with "just" 86), their 7.0 UZR/150 was more than two-thirds of a point better than the second-place Cardinals, and their 23 Outs Above Average ranked fifth.

It's amazing what a series against a Triple-A team can do for an offense's confidence.You still have to go out and win those games, and that's exactly what the Yankees did to Oakland, scoring 28 runs in three days.While I'm not ready to declare the offense "back" quite yet, it's certainly some positive momentum to carry into a critical series against the Rays.

Today's game, the annual New York City Public Schools Day at Yankee Stadium, brought the roar of thousands of children every time a ball was hit in the air.The crowd of over 40,000 had a lot to cheer about as the Yankees turned in an entertaining matinee performance on Wednesday.Every game counts the same, and the Yankees will take wins wherever they can get them.

BRONX By the end of the fifth inning, the rout was on for the New York Yankees.New York's two-run lead was starting to feel a bit tenuous, but the Bombers lived up to their nickname in the fifth as DJ LeMahieu hit a two-run home run, Anthony Volpe hit his first career grand slam, and the Yankees opened up a nine-run lead in what ended up being an 11-3 win over the Oakland Athletics.

The Yankees continued their reset series against the MLB-worst Oakland A's with another dominant win, scoring in bunches once again.They benefitted from some Oakland follies, sure, but Gleyber Torres and Jake Bauers showed some renewed pop while Clarke Schmidt went six innings for the first time in his career.

ESPN | Joon Lee: At long last, Aaron Judge is set to return from a hip injury.It hasn't actually been that long, as Judge has only missed the minimum 10 days on the IL, but it feels as though he's been gone ages, with the Yankees in desperate need of an offensive jolt.Judge says he hasn't felt pain in the hip for several days, so it sounds like it should be all systems go for him from the jump.

After a competitive but losing weekend at Tropicana Field, the Yankees were happy to return home Monday to begin a three-game set against a bad Oakland team.The Yankees and Athletics find themselves in last place, but the latter has won just eight games in 2023.The Yankees, meanwhile, picked up their 19th win of the year in Monday's series opener, a 7-2 victory that featured four longballs from the Bronx Bombers.

Another stinker.Let's get through it.The Yankees got out ahead early, with multiple guys contributing to the 6-0 lead.Gerrit Cole wore down, the club blew a golden chance to score in extra innings, and the Rays didn't waste their chance.All three games this weekend were games of inches, but the Yankees just couldn't pull enough of those inches together.

Despite Tampa Bays' home run prowess, and Domingo Germán's propensity to yield dingers, this one turned into a bit of a pitching duel.And what started out looking like another tale of the Yankees' offense struggling turned into an uplifting come-from-behind win.The Rays' only run-scoring burst came when Yandy Díaz and Wander Franco got things started in the bottom of the first with a pair of 96-mph singles.
