1 day agoTexans' Ryans 'excited' by how Stroud has attacked offseason
C.J. Stroud has gained valuable playoff experience despite recent struggles, and DeMeco Ryans believes he has learned from those challenges.
"We try to put ourselves in situations every day in practice where we're facing adversity, where we're being pushed to our edge, and that's where you're forced to grow and feel forced to make decisions."
I'm a simple guy. I'm kind of just one thing at a time. I'm not a multitasker. You can ask my wife. So, I'm 100 percent locked in on Arizona basketball right now, and I'm excited to see what this team can do.
The move is hardly surprising for Ezeiruaku, as the outside linebackers in a 3-4 defense are typically going to be more oriented towards edge rushing. For example, last year the Eagles listed Jaelan Phillips, Nolan Smith, and Jalyx Hunt as outside linebackers even though they did effectively the same thing that Cowboys defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney, James Houston, and Ezeiruaku himself did in 2025.
The Dallas Cowboys have set a new direction for their defense for the fourth year in a row. They hired and recently introduced first-time defensive coordinator Christian Parker. The insights into what Parker's defense will look like that came from the press conference have put the former rival Philadelphia Eagles coach back in the headlines as the face of a defense that desperately needs this reset.
Jordan has been one of the hottest names in the personal coaching world for the past decade-plus. He founded Trench Performance, a private company specializing in training defensive linemen. Through Trench Performance, Jordan has worked with a long list of current NFL players that includes Micah Parsons, Maxx Crosby, Von Miller, Myles Garrett, Abdul Carter, Nolan Smith, and Danielle Hunter.
"Yeah, of course," Vrabel said. "I mean, they have great talent, great scheme, they play hard and I respect how hard they play. They're not only talented, but they have a play demeanor that I can appreciate."
New Atlanta Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski bringing Tommy Rees along with him from Cleveland is "looking good," a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Wednesday. Stefanski and the Falcons are expected to hire Rees as Atlanta's next offensive coordinator. Rees was in that role under Stefanski with the Cleveland Browns in 2025 and was the pass game specialist and tight ends coach the year prior. Stefanski ceded play calling to Rees last November.
Reich was hired Wednesday by Glenn as the Jets' offensive coordinator 30 years after they played together on New York's 1-15 team. The former NFL and Stanford head coach replaces Tanner Engstrand, who agreed to part ways with the team last week after one year running the Jets' offense during a 3-14 season. Amid a major coaching staff shakeup this offseason, the 64-year-old Reich gives Glenn an experienced play caller and veteran presence on the offensive side of the ball.
Will Muschamp is back as defensive coordinator at Texas, where he accelerated his "Coach Boom" reputation and spent 2009 and 2010 as head coach-in-waiting behind Mack Brown. Gary Patterson has not worked at USC before, but his arrival as defensive coordinator -- a role he hasn't held since 2000 -- under a coach he knows well (Lincoln Riley) qualifies as one of the splashiest moves of the winter.
The most likely aspect that'll come over for Parker from a schematic standpoint is the two-high safety look. It's a versatile approach that doesn't tip the secondary's plan pre-snap and forces the QB to make post-snap reads as defenders can rotate into all sorts of different coverage looks after the snap in both man and zone. From a coverage standpoint, their most utilized coverage was Cover 3 over the two years Parker coached the Eagles (32.1% on average).
The nickel now has become a premium position, a defensive-defining position. So having that length and strength is a big advantage, you know, to be able to reroute and disrupt releases of routes. Foot speed to be able to match routes when you're talking about being able to play true single-high coverage. And then your vision to be able to identify route concepts.
