Before, it was very dark. We created a system to make use of the low-ceilinged space under the roof. It allowed us to incorporate plenty of storage, as well as the apartment's service elements.

Fifteen years after the death of Lee McQueen, the brand is struggling to maintain momentum. The dress, conversely, is 80 years old, and it isn't his. It's by Pierre Balmain - Tron shows me a René Gruau illustration of the look where, with a platter hat, white fox stole and opera-length gloves, the look is borne back ceaselessly into the past. It's an illustration in a book titled The New French Style, of Balmain outfits with an essay by Alice B Toklas, the partner of Gertrude Stein.

Rosie's Naked Shoes: Stepping out of her hotel, Huntington-Whiteley donned a pair of barely-there black leather pumps with transparent mesh fabric, adding a sheer contrast to her covered yet avant-garde look. She tucked a skin-tight black turtleneck sweater under a pair of brown suede trousers, featuring an asymmetrical low-rise waistline and a long halter-like drawstring that wrapped around her neck.

Tucked down a cobblestoned, tree-lined alley in the 11th arrondissement, just steps from the Place de la Nation, a Paris loft has been given a new life. The space, a former artist's studio turned residence, opens directly onto the street and is crowned by a transom window that floods the interior with natural light. Interior designer Caroline Pusset, who founded Studio Rœus with her sister, points to the soaring proportions as a starting point for the redesign.

Whenever we ask architects if we can see where they live, the response is invariably: "My place? Let's just say it's a work in progress." Followed by: "You know the expression about the shoemaker having no shoes?" Paris architect Camille Hermand is one of the brave few to open her doors to us. I'm obsessed with clichés. Because for me they are the equivalent of universal recognisable codes. It was important to call it that as a way of assuming the word. It's about tapping into cliché.

There's something about trendspotting in France that just hits differently. Maybe it's the Haussmannian architecture, which provides such a charming backdrop that you almost don't even notice you're literally running from showroom to showroom. Or maybe it's the fact that some of the brands on display truly are new - and in some cases, not even available stateside yet. Whatever the reason, I look forward to Maison&Objet and Paris Déco Off, two furniture- and textile-forward events in Paris, each January.

The age of white-washed, super scant, and industrial spaces are behind us. Designers are craving excitement and color this season, manifesting this shift with maximalist bedding sporting punchy colors, big stripes, and winding patterns. An eye-catching bedding set is as good as a full bedroom makeover. Linens have the ability to fully shift the tone of a room: A set of deep cobalt silks can add mystery and allure, while a gingham duvet can take a space from empty to adorable.

Some of my best discoveries, turns out, were found in the most typical of hardware and sundries stores. When it comes to cleaning, the French aren't wielding harsh chemicals or power tools, but rather, sticking to what's worked for generations. Paris property prices can certainly stretch into the millions, and even at that level, many homes need a little imagination - or even a full renovation - to make them truly comfortable, functional and stylish. The bones are often beautiful, but layouts can be quirky, storage scarce, and finishes in need of love. Still, with the right guidance, you can absolutely find a one, two, or three-bedroom home that strikes that perfect balance of charm, location, and potential.
