Ernest Marquez, a self-taught historian, died at the age of 99. Marquez was known for his books about Santa Monica and his efforts to preserve his family's history.
During a book signing event at the Jonathan Club, Marquez shared the discrimination he experienced as a Mexican-American, only to later be embraced by the club and sell more books than ever before. [ more ]
