He got off to a blistering start once being called up from Triple-A. Concerns over his inability to hit high velocity were temporarily cooled as Kim boasted an average north of .300 for months. Once opposing teams made their adjustments, Kim's numbers and involvement with the team plummeted. He essentially became a late-game defensive replacement rather than a spot starter down the stretch. Kim's strikeout rate (30.6 percent) would've ranked him towards the bottom of the league for a full season.
"Oh, he's a real (postseason) option," Roberts said. "I don't know what capacity, but when you're playing meaningful games, young player, you're looking at how they handle their emotions. And Emmet is, I like to use the word unflappable, and it's a huge compliment. And he's unflappable."
Emmet Sheehan unexpectedly took the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers at PNC Park last week after Shohei Ohtani was scratched from his scheduled pitching start due to an illness. Sheehan held the Pittsburgh Pirates to five hits and two runs in 4.2 innings of work, but took his third loss of the season as the Dodgers were shut out.
