Deadly head-on crash on Highway 49 left two people dead, one SUV driver with major injuries, and caused a vehicle fire and road closures.
Two people died and their children were injured in a solo-vehicle crash in El Dorado County on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said a car struck a tree on Highway 50, just east of Kyburz, around 3:11 p.m. An 8-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were in the car and suffered major injuries. It took hours to get the children out of the vehicle, according to CHP. Their parents were determined dead at the scene.
Residents of the Sierra Nevada foothills have been put on warning because of a wildfire burning near the footprint of the devastating 2021 Caldor Fire. The Coyote Fire was reported around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, about 6 miles north of Volcano. By Thursday morning, it had burned 624 acres, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. An evacuation warning remains in place for an area east of Coyoteville, from Omo Ranch to Farnham Ridge Road, the El Dorado County sheriff's office said.
