Restraint is not part of Diaz's visual vocabulary. His Hutton mirror features 22k gold-leaf spikes, the Sabaudia daybed has wings reminiscent of vintage car fins, and the Jujuy Trastero cabinet features horns. These whimsical improvisations also have a deliberate formality resulting in pieces that Diaz imagines should have existed historically. Designer Ryan Lawson, another admirer, says, "When you see Mike's work it has a sense that it has always been there, like you've stumbled upon some kind of historic relic."
Deciding to move back to New York on a whim, Hollis Loudon Puig, founder of Hollis Loudon Interiors, put a deposit on this 606-square-foot rental apartment while traveling for work in North Carolina. "I didn't step foot in it until the day I got the keys, and somehow it was perfect. The whole thing felt like all the stars aligned," she writes.
A round bed in the center of this 968-square-foot Milan apartment seems to hang in the air, with only a beam of light as its base. It appears and disappears behind by a metal fabric folding door by Dooor (a company that acclaimed Italian designer Gio Ponti also worked with). Elsewhere in the room, historic design pieces and timeless antiques reflect the homeowner's passion; they run Antichità Moglia, a store specializing in antique doors.
