When I work on something, whether it's at Interfere or my personal projects, I like to experiment a lot. Design engineering is a lot about trial and error, and I often spend hours trying to find the "this feels right" moment. This is where AI helps. Instead of spending hours on a concept that I'm unsure of, I try that concept out in a matter of minutes, and throw it away if it doesn't feel right.
I've always imagined design and engineering as two rails on the same track. They run in parallel, supposedly toward the same product, but they rarely sit at the same spot. Design debt on one side, tech debt on the other, shifting priorities somewhere ahead, and the occasional giant "wait what are we building again?" boulder in the middle. This is usually where collaboration breaks:
The fused bundle of weathered steel industrial pipes is eye-catchingly at odds with the grand fountains, statues and Victorian pomp of the massive bronze lions. But this sculpture is completely site-specific: press a play button and look into one of the eyepieces embedded into three of the five pipes and you see images of the surrounding city from the viewpoint of naval commander Horatio Nelson's statue 45m up in the sky.
