Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, are illegal under international law. Efrat, about 7 miles (12km) south of Jerusalem, is home to about 12,000 Israelis. The Palestinian Authority's Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission said in a statement that the initiative constitutes a clear violation of international law and a blatant favouring of the occupation authorities, referring to Israel.

The website noted the barcode also contains a ton of useful information that agents can use to assist you if your passport is stolen.
