Columbus Day, which this year falls on Monday, Oct. 13, is a federal holiday but not an official California holiday. Since 2019, Gov. Gavin Newsom has issued a yearly proclamation recognizing the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples' Day, but it is not on the calendar of holidays for which state employees get paid time off.
