The show features pieces by participants in JASA's programs. The organization, which serves more than 40,000 older adults every year, offers art classes and creative workshops designed to bring people together while encouraging self-expression. The results will be on full display here, from paintings and textile work to other handmade pieces that reflect the artists' personal stories and styles.

"These works are an exploration of the human body's elasticity and capacity to metamorphose. Informed by my own experience of pregnancy and the birth of my first child last year, these paintings are a meditation on physiological transformation and the body's underlying animalistic and mammalian nature."

Turn the circular base, and the whole structure begins to respond, gears catching one another as movement travels upward through its stacked layers. The form borrows from a celebration cake, with layered rings rising one above the other, soft in appearance yet precise in construction. Inside, one tier moves forward, and the next reverses, creating a continuous back-and-forth rhythm.

Large red balloons pull the pale pink fabric upward at key corners, while the material naturally drapes back down toward the ground. The upper surface of the cloth becomes a platform for the wedding ceremony, performances, and informal gatherings, while the shaded area below offers a place for cooling and rest.

We want to make this the most comprehensive historical survey of Chinese art in the first quarter of the 21st century. That was the first exhibition to introduce Chinese experimental art to the international art world, right after the end of the Cold War.

Cezanne Fondation Beyeler, Basel, 25 January-25 May Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) represented a powerful inspiration for the artists who came after him; as Pablo Picasso famously put it, he was "the father of us all". Now, an ambitious exhibition focusing on the French artist's later works, when he was at the height of his powers, will open at Basel's Fondation Beyeler in January.

But they also miss what makes his approach distinctive. Chang worked with objects that industrial culture designed to be identical: records pressed in millions of copies, portraits drawn according to strict house style, coins minted for perfect interchange. His interest lay in the precise moment when the promise of sameness begins to fail, when time and human handling leave marks that transform supposedly identical objects into singular things.

Kathleen Goncharov, a longtime curator who served as the United States Commissioner for the 50th Venice Biennale, has died at the age of 73. The news of her passing was announced by a group of friends and her partner, poet and artist Charles Doria. She died of natural causes in her Boca Raton home on New Year's Eve. Goncharov is remembered as a doting friend, a champion of artists, and a gifted and intuitive curator.

Taking over the museum's transformed school building starting April 16, the cross-borough survey will celebrate MoMA PS1's 50th anniversary with a bevy of site-specific installations, new commissions, and rarely seen work by 53 artists and collectives living and working across New York City.
