Individuals are illegally paying for forged signatures on petitions related to the Billionaire Tax initiative in California.
California's law permits counting ballots that are postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. However, the Supreme Court is reviewing this law, which could lead to millions of ballots being discarded.
Since gerrymandering seeks to elevate partisanship above everything else in our politics ... the best way to counter gerrymandering and its insidious impacts on democracy is simply to take partisanship out of the equation.
It's true that I was fully prepared to run in [McClintock's district], having tested the waters and with polls showing a favorable outlook in a 'safe' district. But doing what's easy and what's right are often not the same. The Department of Justice is preparing to send federal election observers to California and New Jersey next month, targeting two Democratic states holding off-year elections following requests from state Republican parties. The department announced it was planning to monitor polling sites in Passaic county, New Jersey, and five counties in southern and central California: Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Riverside and Fresno.
