Downtown San Jose was more alive today than at any point I can remember. Every street was packed, music was everywhere from the stages to the lowriders cruising the streets, and street food was abundant all throughout the area. San Pedro Square was booming, but so was SoFA, and all of Santa Clara Street. The free drone show at Discovery Meadows was also excellent. If you have the opportunity to get to Downtown tomorrow, take it.
If the thought of sharing room temperature guacamole dip with a bunch of friends of friends on Super Bowl Sunday isn't exactly exactly your idea of pigskin paradise then, well, you're going to want to keep reading. Sure, it seems like everybody on the planet is focused in the NFL's big game, which returns to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday after a 10-year absence.
But no matter my current level of interest in the league itself, one thing I can always get behind is a game-day watch party. I'll take any excuse to gather friends, eat snacks, drink beer, and be merry, especially when I can do it all from the comfort of my own living room. What better way to spend one of the coldest months of the year?
You won't find this in Cortina d'Ampezzo over the next few weeks, but for several decades of the Olympics' history, the contest awarded medals not just for sport but for art too. In the Summer Games from 1912 to 1948, musicians, painters, and plenty of other aesthetes went brain-to-brain in events such as lyric poetry and chamber music. "Town planning" was even contested one year under the umbrella of the architecture competition.
Five of the best years of my life were spent in Bloomington. I have a master's degree and Ph.D. from the extraordinary university that is the heartbeat of that beloved community. IU subsequently bestowed upon me two distinguished alumni awards. The university presented its first Bicentennial Medal to Indiana governor Eric Holcomb in July 2019; that same month, I became the second recipient.
Another round of NFL playoff action has wrapped and we are officially down to a final four: One of these teams is going to win the Super Bowl, but all of them are going to be regarded in high esteem with having reached their conference championship games. As Dallas Cowboys fans we know full well how welcome even a conference championship game appearance would be, not saying that this is the standard, and all four of these teams have the most recent.
Cheering on your favorite team can cause severe mood swings, violent outbursts, and even, at times, tightness in your chest. It's why I'm a fair-weather fan. There's a backstory: I used to have a team. As a Baltimore native, when the Ravens came to our city in 1996, I was all in. After buying tons of black and purple, winning two Super Bowls, and then white knuckling through the lackluster seasons that followed, I decided to set a boundary for my own sanity.
According to Amanda Augustine, resident career expert for TopResume and a Certified Professional Career Coach, per a press release, employers should adjust to the anticipated lower attendance. "For many Americans, the Monday after the Super Bowl comes with a real post-game hangover, and I don't just mean from the snacks and cocktails. It's a mix of late nights, disrupted routines, and for some, a case of the post-game blues.
The Big Ten Conference announced on Tuesday the opponents new head coach Bob Chesney and the Bruins will face during the 2026 season. Whether the games will be played at the Rose Bowl or SoFi Stadium remains to be determined, but the Bruins will not be suiting up against Curt Cignetti and defending national champion Indiana. UCLA will hard launch the Chesney era on the road against rival California on Sept. 5 at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.
Nearly two hours after beating the New England Patriots 29-13 at Levi's Stadium, Darnold strode through what normally is the 49ers' locker room and headed toward the far corner he occupied two years ago, when he was Brock Purdy's backup on another Super Bowl team that endured a much harsher outcome than this Sunday night's. "It feels good to be back in here. I love this locker room, love this stadium," Darnold said. "It's an unbelievable place."
