Facebook hosted terrorist propaganda that celebrated the murder of Jews and praised Islamic State, a leading anti-hate group has alleged. The posts included celebrations of the Bondi beach massacre that the Community Security Trust says Facebook has been too slow to take down. The posts were still on Facebook on 16 December, two days after the attack, and received shares and likes.
According to authorities and witness accounts, a father-and-son pair of gunmen armed with rifles opened fire on a huge crowd of people assembled early Sunday night at Bondi Beach for a "Hanukkah By The Sea" event hosted by the Chabad of Bondi. Footage of the attack showed the gunmen firing from a bridge on the crowd as people fled the gunfire in a panic.
Extraordinary footage of the civilian's actions began circulating on social media on Sunday, shortly after two men, later identified as a father and son, started shooting into a crowd gathered to celebrate the first day of Hanukkah. The massacre has left at least 16 people dead in the worst terrorist attack in Australia's history. In the mobile-phone video, which has not been verified by Bloomberg News, one of the attackers is standing near a tree and firing.
