Australia: Israeli president visits Bondy Beach attack site
"will continue to hold strong in the face of terror, violence and hatred, and that we shall overcome this evil together."
"Our heart missed a beat, like all Israelis and all Jews. And I'm here to express solidarity, friendship, and love,"
"We are two democracies that share values together and we are confronting the roots of evil from all over the world,"
"And we should do it together."
Israeli President Isaac Herzog began a visit to Australia that included meetings with families and survivors of the Bondi Beach antisemitic attack that killed 15 people. Herzog laid a wreath and two stones brought from Jerusalem at a pavilion near the attack site and said the stones would remain as a victims' memorial. He said he had been shaken to the core and expressed solidarity, friendship and love, and called for unity against terror, violence and hatred. Herzog said the visit could improve bilateral relations. Tight security accompanied the Sydney visit, with police snipers visible on rooftops, and further stops in Melbourne and Canberra were planned before his return.
