Turns out the sci-fi filmmakers got it backwards. All those '70s and '80s dystopias like "Rollerball," "The Running Man," "Death Race 2000," imagined futures in which sports were full of gadgets and gimmicks like armored cars, rocket-powered motorbikes, and electrified arenas. In reality, we got the opposite - the padding's gone, and the high-tech monitoring equipment is nowhere to be found.

Last year, more than 37 million people settled their behinds into the red-velvet upholstery, plastic chairs or wooden I'll only tolerate this because it's the Globe benches of a theatre. West End attendance has reportedly grown by 11% and regional audiences have increased by 4% since 2019 pretty impressive amid a cost of living crisis and after a pandemic that had us all locked in our houses.

In this general appraisal, there is a generational aspect, unsurprisingly. While AM/FM listening remains stable, that number drops as the age goes down. Even so, the youthful drop in radio listening is hardly catastrophic; all age groups remain above 80% radio listeners for at least an hour per day. This is illustrated in the graphic below, along with a general decline (from 92% to 87%) across the entire surveyed population.

Fox News has outperformed its rivals on YouTube, doubling views from last year with over 2.3 billion, highlighting a significant shift in media consumption.
