A 20-year-old Syrian refugee has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for attempted murder and other charges. He stabbed a 30-year-old Spanish tourist in the neck at Berlin's Holocaust memorial last year. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries, requiring emergency surgery and an induced coma.
An SFPD officer assigned to Oakland was nearly killed on the job Tuesday, in an eventful car chase that featured a murder attempt, a wrong-way chase on I-580, and Oakland Police opening fire for reasons even they can't explain. A San Francisco Police Department officer can occasionally be assigned to work in Oakland. One SFPD officer had such duty Tuesday, with SFPD's Community Violence Reduction Team.
A coach at Elmhurst Middle School was standing on campus during a break when two men pulled up in a Chevrolet Tahoe, wearing ski masks, and jumped out of the car, according to police. "You got my cousin jumped," one of them allegedly told the man. "We're going to smoke you." A month later, on Dec. 15, one of the men made good on his threats, police said. The coach was walking on 98th Avenue during the day when a man pulled up in, asked the coach if he worked at Elmhurst, then opened fire twice. Both shots missed the coach, who called police after the gunman's Chevrolet Tahoe sped off.
On Christmas Day, just before midnight at 11.27pm, emergency services responded to Wilfred Drive in Darnall after a 20-year-old man was reported to have been shot in his chest. The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical, life-threatening condition. Following the incident, detectives immediately began working at pace to understand the circumstances and quickly had four men arrested in connection to the incident.
Authorities said the violence stemmed from a fight between both 12-year-olds just before 3 p.m. inside Betsy Head Park, near Thomas S. Boyland Street and Dumont Avenue in Brownsville. NYPD officers arrived to find the victim with a stab wound to his chest, and first responders took him to Brooklyn University Medical Center in critical but stable condition, according to officials.
This is the terrifying moment a train passenger launches a bottle attack on strangers. Footage released by British Transport Police on Thursday (11 December), shows an intoxicated Thomas Craig stab a man with a broken bottle of Buckfast, on a train from Glasgow Queen Street to Perth on 16 February 2024. The man was left fighting for his life. Craig, 48, of Walton Street in East Renfrewshire, was convicted of attempted murder and serious assault on 28 November, following a four day trial.
Much like a fatal stabbing involving teenagers at San Jose's other large mall, Santana Row, back in February, the alleged shooter in this case did not actually know the men he allegedly intended to shoot, but he perceived them to be members of a rival street gang, just because of the colors they were wearing. (The 15-year-old boy killed in February, who was not a gang member, was allegedly targeted because he was wearing a red jacket on Valentine's Day.)
The victim had met and befriended a woman known as Chris while in Mexico about a month and a half before the incident, prosecutors said. The relationship between the two, which was non-romantic, continued after they returned home to East Palo Alto, with the pair meeting at a local McDonald's and talking over social media, prosecutors said. Chris confided in the victim about domestic issues she was having with her ex-partner.
