On Oct. 11, 2025 in the West Village, Dana Escoffier, an 80-year-old resident who lived on Hudson Street crossed paths with 82-year-old Dean Whetzel, who lived around the corner. They were neighbors for 50 years. According to news reports, Whetzel apparently bumped into him. Escoffier allegedly shoved him back, sending Whetzel to the pavement where he suffered a fractured skull. He never regained consciousness and died on Nov. 5, 2025. The city's medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
A man in his 30s has died after he was hit by a police vehicle on an emergency call in south London. The pedestrian was struck by the marked vehicle on Borough High Street at 00:34 GMT, the Metropolitan Police said. He was given emergency first aid by officers and treated by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, but died at the scene.
At Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, Huseen appeared by videolink from HMP Pentonville to plead guilty to causing the death of Mr Fakana by dangerous driving. Huseen, who admits being uninsured and unlicensed at the time, also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving to another of the passengers in the BMW. The crash happened just three months after Mr Fakana, from Tottenham, north London, was set free from a prison in Dubai.
Oswaldo Alvarez Galeano, 56, was struck and killed by a Toyota Matrix as he ran across Meadow Lane in Concord a little before 8 p.m. on Dec. 12, authorities said. A 41-year-old woman, the suspected driver, stayed at the scene and was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. She was later released from custody and has not been charged, court records show.
Another day in California, another fatal "accident" taking the lives of innocent Californians whose only misfortune was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This latest incident of driver negligence occurred in Westwood, in Los Angeles, on Feb. 5. The crash is strikingly similar to the one in Burlingame last summer, where a 19-year-old motorist killed 4-year-old Ayden Fang and sent a 6-year-old girl standing beside him on the sidewalk outside a downtown restaurant to Stanford Hospital.
