Child killer Jon Venables is set to have his latest bid for freedom heard by the Parole Board. The 43-year-old, who tortured and murdered two-year-old James Bulger in 1993, will have his case heard by parole chiefs at an oral hearing more than two years after his last appeal. In 2023, the Parole Board rejected the bid and found he still posed a danger to children and could go on to offend again.

Only two of the men - Norris and Gary Dobson - who were involved in the racist stabbing of the 18-year-old in Eltham, south London, in April 1993 have ever been brought to justice, with four other suspects never convicted. His father Dr Neville Lawrence told BBC News: "For me to think that [Norris is] safe to be released, is for him to give the names of the people with him that night."

In a recent statement, Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams confirmed that Governor Newsom reversed the Parole Board's decision to release Paige Linville, citing public safety concerns.
