Google has reintroduced the local pack within its AI Overviews feature, which had been absent since September 2023. The change was first noted by Greg Sterling, who highlighted this update while searching for local eateries. Unlike before, the AI Overviews now display a set of local results, with variations in responses seen across multiple searches. The feature remains visible in Labs for users not part of the AI Mode beta. Users can now experience an integrated local pack that complements the organic search results.
Seeing my first AI Overview for local: "best fish tacos near me." Then Andy Simpson posted a video of it in action on X.
I will say, in my example, the AI Overview local pack and normal Places section in the organic results are slightly different.
Just searched "best fish tacos near me" again and this result shows four completely different businesses vs. the first local AIO.
This is not reserved for those in the AI Mode beta, because I am not yet in the beta and I see it.
