Reseeding, or overseeding, a lawn is essential for maintaining its health and appearance. Spring and early autumn emerge as the best times for this task, as they ensure new grass seeds can establish well. Weather conditions play a crucial role, influencing the success of the reseeding process. Experts recommend autumn for its warm soil and reduced weed competition; however, spring is also viable albeit with potential weed issues. Successful overseeding is linked to careful timing and can invigorate worn lawns, especially post-summer drought.
Knowing when to reseed a lawn is key to getting the best results. Spring and early autumn are generally considered to be optimum times for new seed to take root in your lawns.
"Early autumn is considered the best time in the lawn care calendar for overseeding due to the warm soil and cooler air temperatures. Early spring is fine for overseeding and sowing grass seed as well but the weed competition is higher at this that of the year," explains Fiona Jenkins.
