Wexford family the focus of latest episode of groundbeaking garden show on TG4
A TG4 garden makeover episode in Wexford followed a local family turning a new build site into a wild haven. The family wanted a biodiverse garden with a wildlife pond, wildflower meadows, and year-round space for family time. The project began on farmland with little structure, weak topsoil health, and no established biodiversity. The team, guided by garden designer Mary Reynolds and a rewilding philosophy, removed the traditional lawn concept. The work focused on rebuilding soil health, creating native Irish plant pockets, and forming natural structures to support wildlife and long-term ecological change.
"“We're very excited about the revolutionary aspect of the show. Garden makeover shows are normally so easy, breezy and beautiful and enjoyable, but this definitely has more of an edge. It's still really visually striking and gorgeous, but we're also trying to urge people into action as well and start a revolution,” she said before the show aired."
"Neasa Ní Chiaran and Richard Freyne who live in Marshalstown, have always dreamed of turning their Wexford new build site into a wild haven. Wanting to create something very different from the intensively farmed fields that surround them., they hoped to get help in creating a biodiverse garden with a wildlife pond, wildflower meadows, and space for family time throughout the year."
"The team took on a completely raw, exposed building site on farmland that lacked structure, topsoil health, and any established biodiversity. Guided by Mary Reynolds' rewilding philosophy, the family stripped away the traditional 'lawn concept' entirely, instead deciding to focus heavily on rebuilding soil health, establishing native Irish plant pockets, and creating natural structures."
