Wet room vs bathroom: We weigh up the pros and cons when making your choice
Briefly

Wet rooms are a modern alternative to traditional bathrooms, designed to maximize space by providing an open, waterproof area for showering. Unlike standard bathrooms, which often have various fixtures crowding the space, wet rooms feature a level-access shower without a tray, allowing for a seamless design. Experts highlight that while wet rooms can feel spacious and stylish, they may raise concerns over missing bathing options like tubs and managing moisture around toiletries. The evolution of wash spaces reflects changing attitudes towards cleanliness and convenience.
"Unlike a standard bathroom that has dedicated showering or bathing areas, a wet room is a completely waterproof space that includes a level-access shower without a shower tray," explains Simon Boocock, MD of CR Laurence of Europe.
"Shower enclosures became popular in the 1960s as a luxurious extra in bathrooms large enough to have one separate to rather than over the tub."
"A wet room can feel sleek, stylish and unconfined... but you may worry that you'll miss having a tub to relax in and that the walls and floors will get just so, well, wet; or even how to protect your toiletries from getting soggy."
