The Boathouse Zuka, a 25.5-square-meter structure along Lake Bled, showcases sustainable architecture through its renovation by OFIS Architects. The project focused on preserving the traditional alpine boathouse while adapting it for contemporary scientific use. Rather than demolishing the structure, careful restoration was employed, utilizing traditional pine resin for wood treatment. The facade was innovatively redesigned with offset wooden slats, creating dynamic light and shadow effects. This building now serves as the headquarters for the Slovenian Environment Agency, overseeing vital research on Lake Bled's water quality and housing a pioneering rooftop filtration garden.
