The MoMA Design Store at 81 Spring Street in Soho will close for renovations starting May 16 and is set to reopen in fall 2025. The redesign aims to transform the 6,600-square-foot space to better reflect contemporary retail and design interactions. Key updates will include exposing original architectural elements, modern lighting, and a flexible merchandising system. MoMA plans to relocate the entrance and showcase a significant artwork on the north wall to enhance the store's visibility and connection to the Museum, creating an immersive experience for visitors.
The new Soho store will be a more flexible, immersive and intuitive environment, enhancing the relationship with the Museum while offering joy to visitors.
MoMA's redesign will reveal original cast iron columns and masonry walls, creating a fluid shopping experience that harmonizes with the building's historical character.
