Opened in 1976, the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center operated as a professional venue housed in an aging brutalist structure that had become closed off and disconnected from its urban surroundings. The building suffered from obsolete infrastructure and inadequate technical capacity for contemporary performance standards. The project implemented a comprehensive modernization to upgrade mechanical, electrical, and theatrical systems, improve audience and performer amenities, and reconfigure facades and circulation to present a newly visible public face and restore connections with the surrounding urban fabric.
