Portland Art Museum sets the date: After 9 years, transformed campus to open Nov. 20 * Oregon ArtsWatch
Briefly

The Portland Art Museum is set to celebrate the grand opening of its significant renovation project on November 20, nine years after its initial announcement in 2016. The $111 million project adds nearly 100,000 square feet of gallery and public space, highlighted by the new Mark Rothko Pavilion, enhancing the museum's role in downtown Portland. With improvements in accessibility and exhibition space, museum Director Brian Ferriso emphasized the project's vision to better serve the community and reinforce the museum as a cultural landmark between Seattle and San Francisco.
The Museum's transformed campus is a result of a decades-long vision to better serve our community as the cornerstone of Portland's downtown cultural district.
The new PAM will create a dynamic destination for the arts, reinvigorating our city and offering expanded opportunities to engage audiences with art from around Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and the world.
The Rothko Pavilion will literally provide a window into the museum, including its new Black Art and Experience Gallery, which will be visible from the Pavilion's walk-through pedestrian and bicycle space.
Importantly, the construction project also vastly improves access to the museum, adding elevators and ramps, and greatly improves the layout of the galleries.
