"The Mushroom Pavilion was designed by OMA's New York office, led by Shohei Shigematsu, with project architects Shary Tawil and Caroline Corbett. The building opens to the surrounding 65 acres of natural landscape between the mountains and the Oaxacan coast through an oculus that connects the central space to the sky, as well as through openings around the lower perimeter that allow natural ventilation."

OMA's New York office, led by Shohei Shigematsu, designed a 200-square-meter mushroom production pavilion for Fundación Casa Wabi in Oaxaca, Mexico. The domed ellipsoidal structure opens to the surrounding 65-acre landscape through a central oculus and perimeter openings that provide natural ventilation and views toward the ocean. The pavilion's curved base minimizes ground contact to protect native guayacán trees. Inside, three specialized chambers—fruiting, incubation, and storage—encircle a central gathering space. The self-supporting structure functions as an incubator for mushroom cultivation while fostering exchange between food, art, nature, and local communities within the foundation's existing facilities.
