"heavy chocolate laminate floors, partition glass, sandstone veneer on the walls/fireplaces,"
"Can lighting everywhere!"
"It's a very dramatic place to cook."
"I like items to feel completely integrated into the design of the home rather than freestanding furniture."
A 1961 ranch-style house in Mandeville Canyon had a 1990s remodel that introduced heavy chocolate laminate floors, partition glass, sandstone veneer on walls and fireplaces, and pervasive can lighting. The renovation removed those intrusive elements and reinstated original Cliff May–influenced features such as a post-and-beam ceiling and a two-sided fireplace. Locally sourced materials—white oak custom cabinetry and leathered, leathered limestone countertops—establish an organic-meets-minimalist palette. A La Cornue range with a heavy-plaster exhaust surround serves as a dramatic focal point. Built-in banquette seating and integrated oak furnishings improve hosting flexibility and spatial cohesion between kitchen, dining, and living areas.
