Long Island Family Forced To Live in a Camper After Contractor Gutted Home, Then Disappeared
Briefly

The Salientino family from Shoreham, Long Island, has been living in a camper as their home renovation remains unfinished due to hiring an unlicensed contractor. After paying $96,200, the contractor left the house in disarray with exposed wiring and incomplete work. The family later discovered that their contractor was listed on the 'Wall of Shame' for operating illegally. It emphasizes the importance of hiring a licensed and insured contractor to protect homeowners from financial loss and ensure quality renovation work.
'Licensed contractors pay into a state fund that reimburses homeowners if the contractor does not complete the job in a satisfactory manner,' says Morris Katz.
The Salientino family learned their contractor was on Suffolk County's Consumer Affairs 'Wall of Shame' for operating without a valid contractor's license.
