flood-proof bamboo pavilion anchors yasmeen lari's zero-carbon pono village in pakistan
Briefly

The Juliet Center, designed by Nyami Studio and Jack Rankin under Yasmeen Lari's initiative, serves as a community hub in flood-affected Sindh, Pakistan. Constructed using low-cost, eco-friendly materials like bamboo and mud, this vaulted pavilion is designed to enable community activities and educational workshops. Focusing on sustainability and long-term empowerment, especially of women in construction, the project aims to address the economic and environmental challenges faced by local populations following the severe floods of 2022. This development reinforces the mission of the Heritage Foundation to support marginalized communities through innovative architecture.
At the heart of the project was a commitment to creating positive social impact, particularly for women who are trained in construction to support their livelihoods.
The Juliet Center, built with eco-friendly materials, embodies a resilient architectural response to the vulnerable communities in Sindh affected by floods.
