The Ravenscourt Park Hospital in west London will be redeveloped into 140 residential units and a 65-bed care home after approval from the Hammersmith and Fulham Council's planning committee. The project includes the conversion of three hospital blocks for housing and a fourth for community use, which will include workspaces and a café. While the developer TT Group aims to preserve the Art Deco style, only 21 homes will be affordable, raising concerns from local residents regarding excessive building size and affordable housing provisions below policy requirements.
"The proposal represents a rare opportunity to sensitively, sustainably, and inclusively regenerate a nationally important building. It will address Hammersmith and Fulham's acute needs by delivering new market and affordable homes, and elderly care accommodation."
"We have worked with officers to maximise the affordable housing component of the scheme, which is a significant achievement [given] the heritage constraints."
Stephen Walker from the Ravenscourt Square Residents' Association described the replacement of block E with 'oversized, overbearing five-storey buildings' that would 'blight the neighbourhood' and 'destroy the roof line and townscape.'
