Havering Council has approved the construction of 18 modular homes in the Waterloo and Queen Street Estate area. This initiative is part of a broader plan to redevelop the estate with a total of 1,380 homes. Due to delays in the final phase of the project, set to begin in five to seven years, these temporary homes will help address immediate housing needs. Each unit is designed to be both portable and of high quality, intended to improve living conditions for families compared to current temporary accommodations.
The modular homes will offer a significant improvement on current options like hostels and hotels, giving families a safer, more stable place to live.
Councillor David Taylor expressed deep concern over the cost of each unit, set to be supplied for 200,000, while assuring high quality will be maintained.
