Crouch End or Canary Wharf? Anger over plans for 'colossal' 18-storey tower
Briefly

Fifth State intends to redevelop the former Jewson Builders Merchants and historic Lotus manufacturing site in Tottenham Lane into a cafe, exhibition space, and student flats. This development will feature four towers, with heights ranging from one to 18 storeys. Concerns have been raised regarding the scale of the towers, with a petition against the plans already securing 250 signatures. Opponents seek changes to the designs to better reflect the local neighborhood’s character while some community members express support for the initiative and the restoration of historic workspace.
"If you build four towers, one that is 18 storeys tall, then developers think that this can become Canary Wharf," said opponent Aliette Fenton-Sharp, who lives in nearby Rathcoole Avenue. "We just don't want that kind of development in our local area."
Chris Arnold, founder of Crouch End festival, expressed excitement about the plans, stating, "These include proposals to refurbish the historic Lotus workshops to provide an accessible community cafe."
A preliminary planning application indicates that the new towers will range from one to 18 storeys high, yet full proposals have not yet been submitted to Haringey Council.
A petition against the proposed towers has already gathered 250 signatures, reflecting community concerns about the height of the development.
