ZKU, Center for Art and Urbanistics occupies a converted former freight station in Berlin Moabit, converted in 2012. The program combines art, urban research, music events, urban strategies, lectures, cinema, neighborhood markets and other public activities. Program breadth rapidly exceeded available space, creating a need for additional or reconfigured facilities. Project roles include lead architects Peter Grundmann and Uwe Zinkahn, design team Peter Grundmann Architekten, technical team led by Alisa Buslaeva, and general construction by Quittenbaum Bauingenieure. The project focuses on cultural architecture and refurbishment to accommodate multidisciplinary programming and community-oriented urban activities.
