Broken? Get it sorted at new fixing factory'
Briefly

The community repairing project combats E-waste while promoting basic mending skills to transition from consumerism to a repair economy. Launched after successful pilot sessions in Wembley and Willesden, the initiative involves setting up 'fixing factories' across high streets. Charities Possible and Restart Project aim to normalize repairs, with volunteers helping community members salvage cherished items. With Britain being a top E-waste producer, the project addresses local lack of repair services, encouraging a sustainable lifestyle reminiscent of previous generations' make-do-and-mend attitude.
We want to have a fixing factory' in every high street, the Restart charity's Shelini Kotecha revealed. Making repairs should be the norm'.
Britain is the second highest producer on the planet for E-waste' per head of its population, the charities point out.
The idea sorts out broken electricals and shows basic mending skills all to shift us from our indulgent consumerism back towards a repair' economy.
It follows the pop-up repairs café in Willesden in 2022 when 100 people turned up to have items patched up by volunteer fixers.
