Good Company is an English-language bookshop and café in Lisbon, designed by Perrine Velge of Studio Pim. Founded by Samuel Miller and Giovanna Centeno, the venue offers not only books but also a space for coffee, pastries, wine, and events. The design is heavily influenced by older Lisbon establishments, with features like a marble bar and frescoes, creating a sense of belonging in the city. With window seating inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the shop integrates the street environment, fostering a welcoming atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
Good Company is the brainchild of Samuel Miller and Giovanna Centeno, who envisioned a welcoming space for English books that includes coffee, pastries, and events.
Perrine Velge, the designer, aimed to make Good Company feel like it belonged in Lisbon, drawing inspiration from local favorites and the city's historical charm.
We borrowed a number of design elements from these inspirations-the marble bar, the display in the entrance, the fresco above the bar-but more broadly we were captured by the sense of egalitarianism and beauty.
The window banquettes were inspired by Scottish designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, allowing an open connection to the street.
