A Young Milanese Couple Restore Their New Apartment with Care-and Tons of Retro Fixtures
"It had been neglected for years, yet it retained its soul, which led us to decide to keep some of the furnishings. For us, this wasn't simply a design decision, but almost a sacred passing of the baton."
"Each element is a memory we wanted to respect. We updated the space with new materials, but always with much careful thought, shaping the project around what was already there. The old and the new are woven together in a dialogue that takes place throughout the home."
Vincenzo and Stefania Ferrieri purchased a second-floor apartment in a 1960s Sant'Ambrogio building that retained the energy of its previous inhabitants but required modernization. Rather than completely renovating, they chose to honor the space's existing soul by keeping select original furnishings and architectural elements, particularly the marble flooring. They engaged designer Lucrezia Calvi, known for her thoughtful renovation approach, to guide the project. Calvi's philosophy centered on respecting each element as a memory while carefully integrating new materials and contemporary updates. The result creates a dialogue between old and new throughout the home, balancing preservation with modern sensibilities.
