"Initially, I loved the open concept because I was just young and I was like, 'Oh, it looks so big and open,' then that kind of changed over time, especially with two toddlers. I see toys everywhere. It's just overstimulating."
"Since the TV was visible from the table, her children would try to watch it while they ate meals, which she didn't love. The addition of a pony wall broke up the space without making it feel smaller."
Alexa Occhipinti purchased her Sacramento home in 2020 with her husband Doug. As their family grew with two children, the open-concept first floor layout combining kitchen, dining, and living areas became overwhelming. Toys scattered throughout the space created visual clutter, and the visible TV distracted children during meals. In December 2025, Occhipinti decided to modify the layout by installing a pony wall between the dining and living areas. This architectural addition successfully divided the space into distinct zones while maintaining an open, spacious feel. The renovation addressed her family's evolving needs without making the home feel cramped or smaller.
