Susan Lucci Gave Her 1920s Long Island Home a Bright New Chapter-Without Starting Over
""Susan wanted us to come look at her family room and kitchen, to give it a fresh look,""
""But then we went from room to room and the inspiration just kept going.""
""I really wanted to freshen everything up, with cleaner lines and no clutter,""
""I was about to auction my mahogany Chippendale chairs, and I kept thinking, 'Gee, they're so beautiful.'""
A mother-and-daughter decorating team refreshed a 7,000-square-foot 1927 house, redecorating almost every room and the exterior with white siding and cobalt-blue shutters. The color palette originated from a white rug with abstract blue splatters. The redesign combines an open kitchen, breakfast area, and salon facing a fireplace, emphasizing cleaner lines, less clutter, and luminosity through white walls, greige rug, pearl fabrics, and glass accents. Several antique furnishings were retained and lacquered to blend with contemporary pieces, balancing light elements with heavier antiques like an antique pine credenza and a framed gilt mirror.
