It's a reassuring promise"
"When the time came to design and build his own house, Robert found himself on the other side of the equation - grappling with the same decisions, doubts, and emotional investments he so often helps his clients manage. Without the professional distance he usually relies on, every choice felt more loaded, every detail more personal, from where the sun lands in the morning"
Interior designer Robert Glynn and his partner Amanda Lyons self-built a modern black barn in Rolestown, north Co Dublin, about 35 minutes from Dublin city centre. The couple used a timber frame that was erected in three days. Glynn established a reputation for removing stress from the design process, but designing his own home removed professional distance and amplified every decision. He encountered the same doubts, emotional investments and detailed considerations he normally helps clients manage. Practical matters such as sunlight, entry habits and coat storage carried heightened emotional weight throughout the build and design.
