Cracks in wooden cutting boards can be unsightly, harbor bacteria, and make cutting harder. A cracked board does not need to be discarded if the crack is not too large. Food-safe wood glues or epoxies such as Dr. Resin or Titebond III can seal cracks, but only if labeled food-safe and intended for wood. Fine-grit sandpaper smooths the repair, and food-safe mineral oil or beeswax seasons the board. The board should be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water, debris removed with a knife tip or toothpick, and dried completely so moisture does not prevent bonding or promote bacteria growth. Sawdust can be mixed into epoxy for a more natural appearance, and epoxy should be applied with a brush or toothpick, filling the gap as much as possible before sanding.
