A "So Brown" 2007 Kitchen Gets a Maximalist Makeover (but the Cabinets Are White!)
Briefly

Designer Shauna Glenn transformed a 2007 Weatherford, Texas, home at the request of homeowner Elizabeth Willett, who desired vibrant color. The outdated kitchen, marked by dark cabinetry and worn countertops, required significant updates. Instead of replacing everything, Shauna creatively revitalized the space by repainting existing cabinets white and adding orange hardware, aligning with the homeowner's love of color. This swift three-week renovation created a fresh, open atmosphere while incorporating essential design elements, showcasing an effective balance between modern aesthetics and practical solutions under the constraints of the COVID pandemic.
In just three weeks - thanks to keeping the original cabinetry and hardware - the kitchen went from 'one note' to 'feeling like it breathes,' Shauna explains.
I wanted something fresh, Elizabeth says when discussing the dated kitchen, which felt closed-off with dark wood cabinetry and black quartz countertops.
Once it's in you, it never leaves, Elizabeth states, highlighting her lifelong connection to color through years as an art teacher and Crayola employee.
Shauna suggested framing the fireplace with the stone to make the kitchen and adjoining living room appear balanced and cohesive, showing thoughtful design solutions.
